Blurb:
Emerson Parker is exhausted. She spends her days chasing around her high energy, half-shifter toddler and her nights working full-time trying to make ends meet.
...oh, and add in the absolute cluster of a situation her ex dumped in her lap on his way out?
Well, that's just icing on the cake.
With virtually no options left, Emerson heads for Haven, a sanctuary city for monsters and humans alike. Survival means taking a job at The Monster's Den - a club that caters to the inhuman residents of her new home.
But freedom comes with complications of its own: delusional monsters dead set on inserting themselves into her life and her bed.
With the North American Alpha hot on her heels and monsters standing in his way...
Will it be enough to keep Emerson and her daughter safe?
Review:
Emerson is a struggling single mother to a half-wolf child living on what little she gets paid and the debt left over her head by Ember's father. Unfortunately for her, Emerson is forced to find new lodgings when her landlady decides that she needs to make room for her daughter and son-in-law. Nadia, Emerson's close friend, opens her home to her friend allowing the tired, single mother a relief but Emerson knows that she will have to find work to lift the debt off her back and make the Alpha Wolf back off of her.
But what Emerson did not expect was her life was about to change within the Monster's Den...that she would find herself and her life turned upside down by four monsters - an Incubus, a Gargoyle, a Hellhound, and a Vampire.
This was my first read from this author and I loved that this story gave us a strong female character who is struggling with not only trying to pay off a debt laid upon her shoulders by her ex but also learning how to deal with her half-wolf shifting daughter. Emerson is learning along the way to handle her daughter and of course, there are always going to be hiccups along the way because Emerson is human and she has been given no course in having a child, but when Dread, the hellhound, steps in to help her learn to reign in her child.
I loved the monsters and how they treated both Emerson and her daughter. I also loved that Dread was the one who took up the role of father to Ember. He was the one who stepped in to teach Ember how to transform, scold her when she hurt her mom, and most of all teach her how to act. These were the kind of monsters that I really love seeing. Of course, the smut is just an added bonus.
Final Thought:
If you like monster romances, then I recommend this book.
