Sypnosis: Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.
Six teenagers dead. Finally, the killer behind bars. But are the games just beginning?
Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives—predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning—and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development…
Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.
As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret.
Review: I love when I find a book that is short but has a lot of suspense and thrills at its core. You think you solve the mystery but then you learn how wrong you completely are. All the clues are there but you miss them completely.
I was one of those. I should have paid a bit more to the clues that were right there in front of me and I would have probably solved the story quickly.
But this story makes me think of the Ken and Barbie murders way back in the early 1990s. They were later charged with murder and rape. This story has some concept of them especially when it comes to the two who were really behind the Bloody Heart Murders.
Six Boys. All murdered. One boy waterboarded. The seventh boy managed to escape and return home, but his version of things are not adding up. His story is changing and he has accused Randall Thompson, a high school teacher, of being the killer.
Gwen Moore is a Psychiatrist whose specialty is in killers. She meets Robert Kavin at a bar shortly after the death of a client and his wife. There the two strike up a relationship of sorts and soon she is joining his team to prove that his client, Randall Thompson, is not the killer. As Gwen goes through the profiles to make an assessment, she starts to believe that Randall may not be as innocent as he seems.
Gwen made me want to bang my head against the desk. I don't know why I finished this book. I think I was just interested in seeing how this book came to an end or if my assessments were correct in the killer, but there were times that I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room because I found Gwen completely stupid. I don't know how the hell she became a Psychiatrist because when the clues were in front of her, she completely didn't seem to see any of them. It was just ridiculous. I can really see why the detective could have had a suspicion about her.
But seriously how could she not see the fucking red flags? THEY WERE RIGHT THERE! I MEAN THEY COULD HAVE DANCED IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU STILL WOULD NOT SEE THEM. Gods, you are fucking stupid.
