Title: Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians #1)
Author: Kevin Kwan
Format: Epub
Rating: 4/5
Status: Finished
Reading Date: January 6, 2019 to January 7, 2019
Book Summary: Crazy Rich Asians is the outrageously funny debut novel about three super-rich, pedigreed Chinese families and the gossip, backbiting, and scheming that occurs when the heir to one of the most massive fortunes in Asia brings home his ABC (American-born Chinese) girlfriend to the wedding of the season.
When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia's most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back. Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society; Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of the Hong Kong socialite magazines; and Eleanor, Nick's formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should--and should not--marry. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider's look at the Asian JetSet; a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money; between Overseas Chinese and Mainland Chinese; and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, crazily rich.
Book Review: Wow.

Just wow.

This entire book read like the soap operas I used to watch with my Momma. There was a moment where I kept waiting to hear the music and someone tell me, "And these are the days for Crazy Rich Asians...." Seriously I waited for that. LOL

This book introduces us to Rachel and Nick. Rachel has never met Nick's family and this opportunity comes when a family wedding pops up. The thing is Nick has never mentioned his family to Rachel but when Rachel finally meets them she is in for a shock. Here she learns that her boyfriend is pretty much rich and his mother is no angel. In fact, the woman will do anything to dig up dirt on Rachel to break up her up with her son.

Honestly if you thought the shows Dallas and Dynasty were filled with drama and intrigue than you are sadly mistaken. This one has one up on those shows. Although I have to admit, Nick's mother would probably put Alexis Collins to shame.

This book was a fun read and I have to admit I enjoyed it. I intended to read the book way before the movie but when you work in a movie theatre as I do and get to hear what your guests are saying about it, then reading is pretty much further from your mind. I am glad I had a chance to see the movie first and read the book later because I ended up appreciating both in their own way. This was something I could not achieve after reading the Harry Potter books and then seeing the movies to them.

I think this book just became a guilty pleasure and I will eventually read the other two books in this trilogy. Still if you are looking for something fun and trashy, then you will really enjoy this book.
