Anwyn knows the dangers of staying in one place for too long. Ever since the death of her parents at a young age, she has lived a life on the run. She takes what she can and leaves as soon as people begin to question who she is. Unfortunately, her luck has run out, and now she finds herself engaged to a horrible man. With nowhere else to go, Anwyn travels through the one place no one from the village will dare The Woods. Washed into a cave during the storm, Anwyn comes face-to-face with a dragon. What seems like the worst day of her life turns out to be quite fortuitous as she discovers his lair is filled to the brim with gold and jewels. Enough to buy the life she’s always wanted. It soon becomes apparent that the dragon who captured her wants her for more than just a quick meal. The longer she spends in his company, the more she begins to question if a life of solitude is what she wants. Especially as this dragon continues to bring her every comfort and pleasure she could imagine.
After all these years of running, could the life of a dragon’s most precious treasure be the one she’s always dreamed of?
Review:
Lassar was once a lord whose greed made him seek out the Demon in the Woods and make a deal with him, only to have his greed transform him into a dragon. With his gold surrounding him, he never thought anyone would be brave enough to enter his cave. That is until Anwyn shows up shivering from the cold and rain.
Anwyn knows she should have left this little town a long time ago but she had become so accustomed to the life she was currently living that she had allowed herself to slip. She learns that someone knows about her and has decided she would make the perfect wife for him. Anwyn flees from the town only to find a cave and a dragon.
While I did enjoy this novel a bit more than I did the second one, I thought the meeting between the hero and the "villain" was anticlimactic. I think that took away from the story and was a bit of a disappointment. Even when the villagers show up did nothing to add or subtract to the story. It was like they were there and gone. It was sort of sad for me. :/ Although I did like this book a lot more than the second one, it still was a letdown than the previous novel.
Again, this was a quick read and a nice introduction to monster romances if you are looking for something from this genre.
