Like Sailor Moon, Minako Aino is a normal 13-year-old schoolgirl until a fateful day when a white cat introduces himself to her and tells her she has the power to transform into the hero, Sailor V. Using a magic pen to transform, Sailor V fights the evil agents of the Dark Agency as she strives to protect the earth.

Review:

I have loved Sailor Moon since first seeing the anime on Toonami's afternoon shows. It wasn't until I held the manga in my hand that I realized Sailor Moon wasn't the original senshi. She was the sequel to someone else—Aino Minako, Sailor Venus, aka Sailor V.

Aino Minako is a normal thirteen-year-old living a normal, boring life that consists of middle-grade crushes and failing grades, but one day her world is turned upside down when she crosses a white cat. Later in the issue, the white cat introduces himself as Artemis, and he tells her that she is the senshi of love and beauty, Venus, and her mission is to keep the planet, Earth, protected.

This is the first book in a two-book series (I don't have the Eternal version yet so I don't know what it is missing) where we see Minako's life before she became Sailor V. From what I have seen of the first novel, she's pretty detached from her surroundings. We see her Mom in several brief appearances but mainly to reprimand her for her failing grades, but Minako doesn't seem to care much.

I love the Sailor V series because we see more different attacks than what we see in the Sailor Moon universe. These are attacks I would have loved to have seen continued their usage in the SM manga. Still, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
