Only one can wear the crown of Dante.

After Emilia awakens from her brush with death with a divine message and a newfound determination to take the reins of her destiny, her allies uncover shocking betrayals and treachery within her court. Despite the challenges, and with the Pope seemingly on her side, the date for her coronation is set.

Meanwhile, Thessian embarks on a dangerous mission to quell the budding rebellion in the South. His journey is fraught with distractions and unexpected obstacles, including an old flame who may be his downfall.

The fate of Dante hangs in the balance. With spies within their midst, lies at every turn, and new revelations that shake their resolves, Emilia and Thessian must go above and beyond to protect their loved ones.

Review:

Emilia, you naughty girl. First, you get a bit drunk after coming out of a coma, telling Thessian he is your favorite character and is "such a cutie-patootie with 'ose kishable lips and wondarpul abs." It would help if you were thankful that he did not catch that or there would be a lot of questions you may not be able to answer.

On top of that, you go kissing your Shadow. Have you decided to make that Harem near your room now? LOL Seriously girl, you should consider it. You have all these men wanting to knock your world and you would not have to choose a single one. You can have them all. Just like Pokemon. xD

I have come to love all the characters. Each one has grown since the beginning and it shows with each book through their fears, their flaws, their strengths, and their interactions with each other. These characters stand out to the reader and you will often find yourself rooting for both the main characters as well as the secondary.

This book was well worth the wait. The character growth and world-building have been the best yet, pulling the reader to keep them engaged in the storyline from the beginning of the novel to the very end. It's a great read and continues to leave a reader anticipating the next installment in this series.

With each passing day, life in Dante becomes more complicated.

The duke is on trial, Emilia’s capital is slowly recovering from The Great Fire, and the treasury is almost depleted. To make matters worse, her servants keep misunderstanding her relationship with Prince Thessian. Add an attractive Pope with a smile to die for, and it’s a recipe for disaster waiting to happen.

What doesn’t help is that the dragon is still missing, and Sir Laurence seems to be a trouble magnet no matter where he goes.

As the side quests keep piling up, Emilia is forced to put her dream life on hold and possibly explore her feelings for a man who’s willing to do anything for her.

Yet, the enemies of the Crown never sit still. With new sinister plans in motion, the lives of Emilia’s subjects are at stake, and when Thessian falls into grave danger, the young queen is forced to make a choice that could bring about the destruction of her kingdom.

Review:

You have no idea how excited I have been since I was handed this book into my hands. I loved books one and two because the characters and storyline were original and captivating. I have been eagerly waiting to find out what happens next in the series.

Reading this series returns us to a world where Emilia was Isakei'ed into a book where she already knew the fate of her character and she changed her path. With it, she changed the entire direction of the book. I like the fact that we still see glimpses into the real world that she once belonged to. It is saturated as many novels would do this but it is subtle. Just a quick glimpse that is weaved right into the series without interfering with the storytelling.

And that is one of the reasons I have come to love this series. The characters remain well-rounded and feel that even the secondary characters' balance between first and secondary blends beautifully with their leads. And I love that, I love that the secondary characters don't continuously remain in the background. They have their moments to shine.

But then there is Laurence. This guy. You guys don't know how much I wheeze every time he pops up because I love his zingers.

"I need a raise."

Thessian shook Laurence off and folded his arms over his wide chest. "Why?"

Laurence balled his hands at his side. "I will not be a kept man! It is a matter of pride."

I don't think anyone could carry the comic relief as he does. He was just meant to be one of those characters who could come in and relieve the tension in the air. He is the perfect foil for Thessian. While Thessian is serious, Laurence is the opposite of his character.

Emilia cupped his cheeks and pulled his face down until they were an inch apart. "I hope you will take responsibility for those words.

She closed the gap between them and kissed him.

Gurrrl, you better be careful or you are going to have to build a harem next door to your rooms. LMAO!

Before I end this review, I must ask the author: WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME ON A CLIFFHANGER???? NOOOOOOOO!

Final Thought:

This has become one of my favorite series and I invite all interested readers to take a chance on a novel that offers you a glimpse into what Isakei is in manga and manhwa comics.

If you were offered a second life, would you take it?

Emilia died. She thought it was all over but then she opens her eyes and realizes she’s a child with all the memories of her past life and her eidetic memory intact.

Not just that. She’s now living in a medieval world that resembles her favourite fantasy novel—The Cruel Empire. Instead of being a main character, she’s reborn into the role of a princess fated to die before the age of eighteen.

As years go by, and she realises she’s not waking from a dream, she settles into her new life with only a goal in mind—survival.

Having years ahead of her before her new life is cut short, Emilia pulls the strings and builds a network of friends that will help her with her goal—stop Prince Thessian from killing her with the rest of her despicable family and make him her ally.

If she can do this, she can rule to improve her kingdom’s conditions and support Thessian’s goal to become emperor of the neighbouring empire.

But when a side character messes with the main plot, what will happen to Emilia’s future now that she has no idea of what other events she has set in motion?

Review:

When I saw that this book was inspired by the manga/manhua/manhwa with the isakei'd theme I was ecstatic. I had not seen a novel have this sort of theme attached. Mostly seen in Asian comics but never tried out in American novels. So, this was exciting to see.

Our female lead has died in her real life and has been reincarnated into a character from her favorite novel, The Cruel Kingdom. Her character, a young princess named Emilia also known as the Cursed Princess, was destined to share the same fate as her own family, but with her knowledge of the novel's plot, she uses it to her advantage - gather her own network of people and offer the information on her family to the one destined to kill them - Thessian, Duke of Darkgate.

As she navigates through this novel, she must use her knowledge of the book's details in order to continue widening her alliance while making good on her promise to make Thessian the future king of Hellion.

But as she uses the storyline to her advantage, things are starting to change in the novel, characters never mentioned have begun to appear and the novel's story is beginning to change altogether.

It is finally nice to find a strong female character in the fantasy genre. It is essential for diversifying and enriching the stories and characters in the genre. It helps break gender stereotypes and encourages inclusivity, ultimately leading to a more significant and engaged audience.

It is true that strong female leads are not always found in the Isakei realm. More often than not, they are relegated to supporting roles or are portrayed as heartless villains that need to be vanquished.

However, Emilia is an exception to this rule. She defies the stereotypical portrayal of female characters in this genre. Instead of being a passive participant in her own story, she is an active character who takes charge of her own destiny.

In addition, while romance does play a significant role in the Isakei genre, it is refreshing to see that it is not the only driving force in Emilia's story. Her character development is not solely focused on her relationship with the male lead, but rather, on her experiences and growth as an individual.

Regarding the assumption that romance may begin to appear in the second novel, it is entirely possible. However, it is also essential to note that the Isakei genre is not solely focused on romantic relationships. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how the author chooses to develop Emilia's story in future installments.

Final Thought:

To finally have Isakei coming into American fantasy novels is wonderful to see. I hope that this book will encourage other American writers to dip their toes into this particular genre. I would love to see it grow.
