A THIRST FOR DARKNESS (MIDNIGHT VAMPIRES BOOK #1) by Vivian Casey
Fantasy, Romance, Vampires, Paranormal, Arc, Urban Fantasy, Mystery
Recent college graduate Olivia Taylor can’t find employment to save her life. Up to her eyeballs in debt and sinking fast, she has no idea how she’ll ever come up with the money needed to pay her bills. The last thing she expects is for a vampire to throw her a lifeline with a mysterious job opportunity.
Olivia begins work at Dignitary, an exclusive organization that pairs human decoys with billionaire vampires looking to blend in with the living. As if mingling with the undead doesn’t complicate life enough, there appears to be a savage killer on the loose who has a craving for Olivia’s blood. Soon she must decide between a life of supernatural intrigue and one of simple security, and sexy Robert Bramson is the vampire she blames for her hesitation. While Olivia’s new job provides endless thrills, it just might be the end of her.
Review:
Olivia has been saddled with crippling debt from Dewhurst school. Even as she tries to find a job, none of them were interested in hiring her especially when she had "not have enough experience" for the job she had received her diploma. Broke and on the brink of being homeless, her friend, Liz, tells her of the wet t-shirt contest that will snag her a thousand dollars. Reluctantly, Olivia takes up the offer and wins the contest money. In a celebratory mood, Liz and Olivia head to the bar for drinks. Well, Olivia does as Liz finds herself with a bit of a mess and she has to go clean up in the bathroom. Left to her own devices, Olivia meets Michael, who offers her a job at his company, Dignitary. The offer is way too good for Olivia. She believes there is always a catch and she learns there is one - she is to be a decoy for high-class, high-powered billionaire vampires. Her task is to go on "dates" with the vampire and in turn, she will be paid a high paycheck. The only rule - is never to fall in love with her client.
That is much harder than she realizes. Her first client is a billionaire vampire named Robert Bramson. Described by Erika (that is Erika with a K), as an aloof figure who cares little for interactions with his human decoys and is rumored to not be an advocate of vampires and humans mixing. That is far from the truth when Olivia - he is charming, engaging, and enjoyed her company and he wants to see more of her. That is until a photo hits the newspapers. Marlena bans her from seeing him. That is until Robert and Olivia find a way around the ban - with the help of Michael.
But there is a stalker who seemed to be to have it out for the decoys. They are going missing without word or reason. He targets Olivia - calls with no one on the line, a jog incident where Olivia believes she hears her name called, a message on the mirror, and an open window in the kitchen. Add in a death and a misunderstanding and we have quite a storyline to enjoy.
A book about vampires? SIGN ME UP! I had loved vampire books since my first paperback novel when I was a teenager. I loved gobbling them up and seeking out more of them, but vampire love stories were few and far to find. The only vampire book that I have never loved was the one with sparkly vampires. That was not a vampire book. This one is. It stays true to the vampire lore - stakes, decapitation, and sunlight are ways to kill a vampire. When I found out the author was on BookTok and asking for ARC readers, I had to jump at the chance because of vampires. Yep, vampires. It did not take long for me to gobble up this book in no time. I was hooked from the moment I turned on my Kindle until the very last page. This was a book that, even after the end, I thought of the characters and storyline. And these are the type of books that I love. I want to be reeled in by both the characters and the story. I want to be captivated by every nook and cranny of a novel.
There are only two things I found wrong with this story:
Now I wait patiently (NOT!) for the next book.
