Book Review: As a fan of any kind of history, I was excited when this book was dropped into my lap. I could not wait to devour this book when I had my day off. Here was a book about the Presidents. Perhaps this book would contain information not set forth in other books that complied together all presidents.

I was disappointed.

Although this was could be considered a light read, the entire thing failed to capture any sort of my attention. I even tried several times to come back to the book after chores but I could not find a single thing that would draw my attention long enough.

The author seemed to favor one political party over another and pointed out things about that party he cared nothing for seem to be one of the worse. Of course we are going to have good and bad presidents from both. It will be history to decide on which side they will be on, not a single author should be a loud to do that.

Another thing that bothered me about this book is the oddly fact organization. For example, who was a lawyer or who liked playing cards on the weekend. This could have been a fun way of organizing something but it held little information or even a fun fact about any of the presidents that were listed. Of course, there might be a mention of one or two presidents but the others that had been listed were vague or there was nothing at all.

Will I pick this up again later on in the future? I don't know. I might try again but for now I think this book is better left in my unfinished pile.

Title: The Secret Life of Josephine: Napoleon's Bird of Paradise
Author: Carolly Erickson
Format: Epub
Rating: 2.5/5
Status: Did Not Finish
Reading Date: December 05 to 07, 2016
Book Summary: The bestselling author of The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette and The Last Wife of Henry VIII returns with an enchanting novel about one of the most seductive women in history: Josephine Bonaparte, first wife of Napoleon.

Born on the Caribbean island of Martinique, Josephine had an exotic Creole appeal that would ultimately propel her to reign over an empire as wife of the most powerful man in the world. But her life is a story of ambition and danger, of luck and a ferocious will to survive. Married young to an arrogant French aristocrat who died during the Terror, Josephine also narrowly missed losing her head to the guillotine. But her extraordinary charm, sensuality, and natural cunning helped her become mistress to some of the most powerful politicians in post-Revolutionary France. Soon she had married the much younger General Bonaparte, whose armies garnered France an empire that ran from Europe to Africa and the New World and who crowned himself and his wife Emperor and Empress of France. He dominated on the battlefield and she presided over the worlds of fashion and glamor. But Josephine's heart belonged to another man--the mysterious, compelling stranger who had won her as a girl in Martinique.
Book Review: Real Review Rating: 2.5

I tried, really tried, to read this book but I could not connect at all with the characters. It felt flat and not even a bit fleshed out. I understand that this is entirely historical fiction but the feel felt more like one of those cheesy romance novels from back in the late 80s/early 90s.

And trust me, I read those when I was a teenager!

I have always loved reading books with Josephine or even Desiree. I discovered a passion for these two women when I was younger and gobbled up whatever books I could of them. Some were good and others just used the same resources over and over again.

When I discovered this one, I thought I really found something different. I was wrong. So very wrong. I could not connect with Josephine at all. She seemed to one-dimenson and seems to obsess about someone who is out of her life for such a long time. I understand that one never forgets their first time but I would have thought she would have moved on from it.

Was I wrong in thinking this?

Okay nevermind.

Moving on.

I don't even know if I will pick up another book by her.

Title: Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard #1)
Author: Christina Lauren
Format: Epub
Rating: .5/5
Status: Did Not Finish
Reading Date: January 01, 2016 to January 01, 2016
Book Summary: An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

Originally only available online as The Office by tby789—and garnering over 2 million reads on fanfiction sites—Beautiful Bastard has been extensively updated for re-release.
Book Review: Real Rating: .5

I learned two things upon reading this book:

1. Anything coming from the Twilight fanfiction world is crap.

2. I need to stop listening to my friends when they recommend books. This has been the third recommendation that I have not finished at all.

Deciding I needed to take a break from the next start of a Star Wars book, I decided to enlist upon some friends and their book recommendations. It seems I had not learned my lessons from the last two but I thought some of them had grown past the whole "Twilight is the best books in the world!!!!1111" mentality.

I was wrong.

Dead wrong.

But it was my fault too. I had not read the entire summary that warned me at the bottom that this came from a Twilight fanfiction and thus I bear much of the blame for not researching this.

The characterizations were far too much like those from Twilight. It seemed like the author was far more in a hurry to have her book published rather than change anything about the characters that would not resemble in the least those of Twilight. Every word, every movement a character made and I knew exactly who they were suppose to be.

This book was a struggle for me to read and I got only into at least four chapters before I decided that it was best to call it quits. I don't think I could take another Twiight spin-off before I cracked.

If you like characters based upon the Twilight series, then this book is for you. If you are not a fan of the Twilight series, stay away from it.
